Myth:

The paper industry destroys the forest

Fact:

India's forest cover has increased upto 24% of geographical area in 2019

India's total forest and tree cover stood at 80.73 million hectare, which is 24.56% of the geographical area of the country. Forest and tree cover has risen more than 130 million hectares in the last four years and responsible forest management is driving this growth. The Paper Industry depends on trees and needs thriving forests. The paper industry ensures that trees and forests are used sustainably and remain available as a raw material for future generations to come.

Future Of Paper Industry

A positive prognosis can be made about the future of the paper industry in India showing a promising growth for the next 10-15 years. The pivotal factors that contribute to the development and growth of the Indian paper industry are numerous.

Right from the increased focus on education by the government to the rapid growth in the robust business environment due to economic development has accelerated the demand for writing and printing paper. Also, with urbanization and rise in the middle class sector, the packaging and specialty paper sector has gained momentum. Further, as the usage of plastic is discouraged for environmental reasons, it has increased the demand and consumption of the packaging sector, as cardboard and corrugated boxes are used as the next best substitute. Hence, the packaging sector will witness a sky-scraping growth in the food, textile and pharmaceutical industries to name a few.
